7 Tips For Planning An Amazing Staycation

Perk #513 of living at the Lake of the Ozarks - you're already in a vacation destination! People travel from all over the Midwest to soak in the sunshine and all of the beautiful sights at the Lake, so when it comes time for you to take a vacation of your own... why should you go anywhere else? Opting for a "staycation" can help you save money and appreciate this beautiful area we call home in a way you never previously imagined. Your friends at The Property Shop At The Lake are here to help with these fantastic tips for planning a staycation that you won't soon forget.

1. Go Boating
The Lake of the Ozarks has recently been voted the #1 Recreational Lake in the Country by USA Today, and it's easy to see why. Boating is an incredibly popular activity enjoyed by locals and vacationers alike. If you don't have a boat of your own, you can rent one from many of the local marinas. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, you can opt for a jet-ski or PWC rental as well. Either way, your staycation won't be complete without some time on the water!

2. See A Movie
Whether you're looking for a fun family outing or a special date night, a trip to the movies is always a fun option. There's nothing quite like taking in a movie on the big screen! The movie theatre at the Lake, Eagle's Landing Cinema, has comfortable seats and eight different screens that are sure to keep everyone in your group happy and entertained.

3. Go Hiking
When is the last time you let yourself truly absorb all of the beautiful sights and scenery that the Lake of the Ozarks has to offer? We might be famous for our boating and water-related activities, but there are several on-land activities that offer some truly breathtaking views as well. Pack a picnic lunch, grab the dog, and get out and explore the many trails around Ha Ha Tonka State Park and Lake of the Ozarks State Park.

4. Camp In The Backyard
Why should you have to drive a few hours before you can set up a campsite for the night? Camping in your backyard can be a ton of fun - and your kids will love it. Set up the tent, build a little campfire to roast some marshmallows, and you'll be good to go.

5. Shake It Up
One of our favorite things about going on vacation is that it's a chance to throw your standard routine out the window. Why not incorporate that same sense of freedom and spontaneity into your staycation? Have a family sleepover in the living room, eat pancakes for dinner, have a food fight... Get your whole family involved in brainstorming different activities and have a blast!

6. Turn Off The Phones
One of the best things about traveling far away for a vacation is that it gives you an excuse to unplug from our fast-paced, digital world. When we're at home, we feel the need to stay on the grid - but why should we? You can complete your staycation by turning off the phones and other devices so you can simply enjoy being in the moment with your friends and family.

7. Relax
Vacations are supposed to be your time to relax and recuperate from your hectic, busy lives. When we're at home, we feel the need to take care of the many chores constantly awaiting our attention, but a staycation is your chance to set all of that aside for a few days. A word of the wise - don't get so caught up planning the ideal staycation that you forget to set aside some time to nap, read, or take part in any other activity that allows your brain to unwind. You'll be glad you did!
